It all started in the year 1943. My grandfather, Orville Charles Wright (no, not the famous pilot), was a simple, small town farmer living in Alexandria, Indiana. This meant he had little free time and little to fill it with. But at the age of 25, he began taking photos at the Armscamp Speedway which used to reside only a few miles away and opened in 1941. This little track featured racing midget cars and small stock car races. My grandpa was hooked -- it's the only thing my family recalls him doing besides farming in his early years. He built a dark room for his hobby; spending weekends in the dark after long weekdays spent in the burning sun. And before long, his skills graduated to the one and only Indianapolis Motor Speedway where he took photos for the track and drivers for many years to come. Fast forward several years and my uncle, Stephen Wright, picked up my grandfather's passion for photography. Highly accomplished with award-winning photography and published around the nation, his eye for photography is astounding. And now I continue a family legend, with a love for photography that, quite literally, runs through my veins.
